A customer in the off-road automotive industry commissioned us to treat a steel aftermarket automotive part with our type II zinc plating process. Our rack process was employed; first the unit was cleaned and prepped, then immersed into the chemical bath and the proper current was applied. After the zinc was deposited, the part underwent post treatment of gold chromate to reach the specified finish. We were able to achieve the clean, smooth, and corrosion resistant surface that the customer requested. This process was plated holding to the requirements set for ASTM 633B Type II electroplating. While we have zinc plating capabilities up to 13' x 2' x 4', the finished dimensions for this part shown here is 2-1/2' x 1'.
A local customer commissioned for a local city project contacted Commercial Electro Plating to perform zinc plating on the steel pump flange as highlighted here. The treatment would extend part life and protect from premature rusting. This 4' x 3' unit is large for typical zinc plating operations, but posed no problems for our company. The proper cleansing and prep work was performed, and parts not requiring treatment were masked for protection. The part was plated on our rack line where a 0.0001" - 0.0002" tolerance was maintained throughout. The specifications called for a type 5 process, administering a clear chromate finish for enhanced appearance and protection.
